Deploying Juniper Contrail SDN on Ubuntu OpenStack

In this video, we’re going to show you just how quick and easy it is to deploy Ubuntu OpenStack and Juniper Networks Contrail Networking using Canonical’s cloud services modeling tool, Juju.

  • Juju enables users to quickly model, configure, deploy, scale and manage entire cloud environments with just a few commands.

Ubuntu is the most popular operating system for OpenStack, used in 65% of large scale deployments according to the most recent OpenStack foundation survey (Tokyo Summit, October 2015). Ubuntu is the reference operating system for OpenStack deployments, making it the easiest way to build an OpenStack cloud. Ubuntu OpenStack can be deployed in minutes using Juju.

  • Contrail Networking is the most popular 3rd party SDN chosen in OpenStack today

Once you have your cloud up and running, Juju continues to enable you to work quickly and efficiently, with nearly 300 cloud applications available in the Juju Charm Store.  One of the first, and more complicated, items you may need to implement is networking.  With the Juniper Networks Contrail charm, this is only a few clicks away.

Juniper Networks Contrail Networking is a simple, open, and agile SDN solution that automates and orchestrates the creation of highly scalable virtual networks.  Contrail’s Juju Charm enables seamless integration into Ubuntu OpenStack and makes it even faster and easier to use Contrail networking, particularly with scale out workloads.

In this first video,  we will demonstrate Juju modeling and introduce the basic functionality of Juniper Contrail.  We will follow up this initial video with a series of videos that take a deeper look into Contrail Networking and the functions we have enabled via the Contrail Juju Charm.
